GasWorksNYC, a nonprofit ceramics studio, needed a complete website redesign to modernize their outdated site and improve usability. Over five weeks, we created a cleaner, more intuitive layout, improved navigation, and added essential features like an online store and event booking. The final design better reflects their mission, supports their community, and makes it easier for users to explore classes, events, and studio offerings.

Our research aimed to learn more about menโ€™s reasons for shopping, like how and where they prefer to shop, where they learn about trends, how much theyโ€™re willing to spend, and where they struggle in shopping and picking out an outfit.

We conducted 5 interview and surveyed 35 participants living in urban areas in their 20s and 30s.

The Challenge

The main challenge of the GasWorksNYC website redesign was creating a design that resonated with people who enjoy ceramics, reflecting the artistry and craftsmanship of the business. Additionally, we needed to develop effective donation pages to support their non-profit goals. The design had to balance aesthetic appeal with functionality, ensuring a seamless user experience while encouraging engagement and contributions.

The Research

The research for this project focused on redesigning the original GasWorksNYC webpage to improve usability and engagement. A/B testing was conducted to compare the old and new designs, ensuring the refurbished website was easier to navigate and provided a more seamless user experience. This data-driven approach helped refine the design, making it more intuitive and accessible for users.

The Solution

The solution involved interviewing people who enjoy ceramics to gather their input on both the design and donation process. We focused on making the website as simple and user-friendly as possible, ensuring that it aligned with their interests while also streamlining the donation experience. By incorporating their feedback, we were able to create a design that felt personal and intuitive, with an easy-to-use donation system that encouraged engagement and support for the non-profitโ€™s mission.

The Result - Design Iterations

The project involved a complete redesign of GasWorksNYCโ€™s website, focusing on creating a visually appealing and user-friendly experience that was responsive across all devices, from desktop to iPhone view. The challenge was to develop a design that resonated with people who enjoy ceramics while simplifying the donation process. We incorporated user feedback, particularly from ceramics enthusiasts, to ensure the site was easy to navigate and the donation system was accessible. The result was a fully responsive and intuitive website that made it easier for users to engage with the business and support its non-profit mission.
